The 2025 H-1B Lottery is about to open - Get ready!

The H-1B lottery will open in early March and close in just a few short weeks. Employers should plan to register their H-1B hopefuls early and not miss the short window.

Each year, employers compete for the limited 85,000 lottery spots available for a new H-1B. Last year's lottery proved no different - USCIS reported it received almost 480,000 registrations in 2024. The same is expected each following year, as the need is unchanging. Employers have open positions and candidates ready to fill them, but not enough visas.

If you are looking to engage in the H-1B lottery, please make sure to consider these issues/factors:

  • Who, of your current and potential workforce, needs to be put in lottery?

  • Is the job offered a qualifying job?

  • Does the individual meet the education requirement?

  • Can you afford the H-1B Employee? (The H-1B requires employers pay at least the prevailing wage for the occupation based on the intended area of employment).

  • Does the employer or worker qualify for any H-1B lottery exemptions?

If you are new to the H-1B program or work visas in general, Corporate Immigration Compliance Institute provides employer-focused, expert attorney led, one-hour live webinars on the ins and outs of the H-1B visa. You can sign up for that training here: LINK
